This is a project I have been thinking about for a long time. Because I reference textures and colors found in the environment around me in my paintings, I wanted to pair visual inspirations with my actual work; these are swatches to show where the elements in my work are derived from.
This is a series of paintings I made for “A Plethora of Enchanted Delights” at Fabric8 in San Francisco.
Paint and dry materials are an immediate medium. The wait time from the idea to the canvas is minimal. When improvising ideas flow minute to minute during the creative process. This mixed media drawing is done on paper. This is an end of summer drawings from the summer of 2011.
Delicate lines and bold colors show the variation of what symbolism can represent. Soft colors and shapes are meant to be easy on the eyes and not aggravate, but to bring calm and create a place where a viewer can relax and not be forced to think about subject matter.
These photographs are taken from my 5″ x 8″ moleskine notebook. This is where I build ideas for future paintings and keeps the creative process flowing on a daily basis. It is especially good for traveling and recording inspiration outside the studio.
