Rylan Morrison

Rylan

After spending a childhood believing in fairies and spending the occasional evening at the Saratoga Springs Harness Track, where her father was the photographer, Rylan became a city mouse at the age of 13 after moving to New York City. With an artist mother, Rylan was exposed to the ins and outs of the New York art world of the 80’s and 90’s. Her memories include living in Exit Art with her mother for a month as part of an exhibit, as well as modeling for the photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. Attending an alternative high school program in Chelsea, and an after school poetry program at the 92nd Street Y, Rylan developed her love of writing and performance. As a student at Hunter College Rylan worked part time as an art handler at the Guggenheim Museum; was an intern at Cliff Freeman (the ad agency known for “Where’s the Beef;”) and was the live-in nanny for the artist’s Lisa Sigal and Byron Kim. During this time Rylan also began experimenting with live comedy, creating characters and writing sketches which she performed in the variety show “The Dog and Pony Show.” Pursuing her dream to develop her skills as a comedian she studied with the improv comedy guru Armando Diaz at Magnet Theater. Rylan performed in, produced and directed several independent shows at Magnet Theater, and was a member of long standing house troupes which performed weekly. To supplement her income she founded her own jewelry design company, Whitelimo, under which she hand crafted Shrinky Dink charms of everything from celebrities to everyday items like Altoids. Her favorite combination was a necklace that included Emily Dickinson and a jar of Nutella. Rylan continues to fulfill the occasional custom request, albeit not under the name Whitelimo. Today, Rylan also continues to develop characters, namely “The Curator,” which is inspired by her exposure to the art world from a young age. Rylan is a currently a member of a meditation and writing group at The Shambhala Center where she is deepening her inner source and writing practice. Bikelbon provides a working platform to overlap creatively with her partner Evan Venegas, as well as try out new ideas.
