Evan Venegas

Evan

Evan Venegas was born in 1975 and raised in Queens, New York. Born into a family with artistic heritage, his father being a respected Latin Jazz musician and his brother a successful music producer. Evan began painting with oils at a young age. In his early teens he started developing his technique of realistic rendering of imaginative objects. He began his education at Parsons School of Design in New York. After spending the first 20 years of his life in New York City. Evan was attracted to the seemingly open minded West Coast. He moved to San Francisco to study painting at the San Francisco Art Institute where the artist received his BFA. Evan considers his paintings to be “playgrounds for the mind.” On the surface, his work can be appreciated in an orchestral sense for both palette and composition. In much the same way expressionist painters of the early century were influenced by jazz music, Evan is influenced by modern day electronic music. Whilst his work speaks for the pulse or beat of an urban existence and the rhythms of life, he welcomes other interpretations of his work and hopes to portray pictures which convey not an exclusive interpretation but rather a visual language that is more universal and encompassing

Paint and dry materials are an immediate medium. The wait time from the idea to the canvas is minimal. When improvising ideas flow minute to minute during the creative process. This mixed media drawing is done on paper. This is an end of summer drawings from the summer of 2011.

    Figurative Rose

Delicate lines and bold colors show the variation of what symbolism can represent. Soft colors and shapes are meant to be easy on the eyes and not aggravate, but to bring calm and create a place where a viewer can relax and not be forced to think about subject matter.

These photographs are taken from my 5″ x 8″ moleskine notebook. This is where I build ideas for future paintings and keeps the creative process flowing on a daily basis. It is especially good for traveling and recording inspiration outside the studio.
